Now in its 11th year, the Great Cycle Challenge is an annual biking event that empowers riders of all ages, abilities and from every state across the country to fight childhood cancer by raising funds for the Children's Cancer Research Fund.
Since its inception, GCC riders have biked more than 35 million miles, raised more than $80 million dollars and made a tangible impact on childhood cancer research – bringing hope to countless children with cancer and their families. Whether you ride indoors or out, every mile matters – because kids should be living life, not fighting for it.
Why We Ride: Meet our 2025 GCC Ambassadors
Bryleigh, 4
Bryleigh's diagnosis of B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia came after a rash led to urgent medical attention. Her treatment includes chemotherapy, spinal taps and lumbar punctures. She's battled infections, intestinal perforation, port replacement and weeks in the hospital. Bryleigh now struggles with her weight and loss of appetite after delayed intensification, DI – a phase of chemo added after the initial treatment, but she's working to get stronger every day. The one thing she's been able to do through treatment is ride her scooter, even down the hospital halls!
Joel, 6
For Joel's family, advocacy has been key since their little boy was diagnosed with B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia in 2023. It took five trips to the emergency room before they felt heard, even though they knew something was wrong. Joel's journey has been incredibly challenging. He's faced infection, anaphylactic reaction to some medications and pneumonia. Serving as a GCC Ambassador allows this beautiful family to raise awareness and funding for childhood cancer research. Joel, even at his young age, encourages other cancer survivors to never give up no matter how hard it gets during the journey.
Kane, 5
Kane has become quite a storyteller and loves to build creative tales involving his favorite stuffed rhino, Ron. Diagnosed with B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia after experiencing high fevers, Kane's imagination thrives from watching the world around him. He often makes up songs and stories based on what he sees – whether playing with his dog, Knox, or riding his bike. His parents find comfort in the cheerful noise. It means Kane continues to crush his milestones and they wouldn't have it any other way.
Kylie, 9
Kylie's journey with stage 4 alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma has been filled with both incredibly difficult challenges and moments of hope. Frontline treatment was especially hard – she endured intense side effects and spent over 100 days in the hospital during the first six months. Kylie was eventually able to return to school and rejoin many of the activities she once missed – she was finding a new normal. That's why her relapse earlier this year was especially heartbreaking, bringing a sudden and painful disruption to her life, both physically and mentally. Now, Kylie and her family are taking each day as it comes, finding pockets of joy and connection whenever possible. This amazing young lady is a true warrior.
Rubi, 6
Rubi was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia at just three years old after her parents noticed she was bruising easily and seemed unusually tired. Her treatment journey has included chemotherapy, multiple hospital stays, and the challenge of maintaining her childhood spirit while fighting cancer. Despite the difficulties, Rubi has shown incredible resilience and continues to find joy in simple pleasures like riding her bike and spending time with her family. Her positive attitude and determination inspire everyone around her as she works toward completing her treatment and returning to a normal childhood.
Zander, 6
Zander was diagnosed with Wilms' tumor after experiencing severe leg pain. Doctors discovered a tumor the size of a football, which required the removal of his kidney along with the mass. He completed treatment but relapsed months later – the cancer had spread to his femur, vertebrae and right foot. He easily becomes tired, but manages to stay mischievous even while living with the side effects of treatment, like a large scar across his belly. No doubt, this little boy is tough, often masking how he was really feeling. His attitude has stayed positive, though, and he's regaining his strength while improving his coordination, balance and ability to use his legs.
Join the Ride to Fight Kids' Cancer
Children's Cancer Research Fund backs research projects that look beyond kids simply surviving cancer – to futures of long-term health, healing and happiness. Thanks to CCRF, the GCC community and donors like you, research has led to targeted therapies and after-cancer interventions that enhance the quality of life for survivors.
Every pedal helps fund advancements in treatments – including safer therapies, less harmful side effects and more cures – for kids battling cancer, offering them a chance at a brighter future.
