Children’s Cancer Research Fund is a national nonprofit dedicated to ending childhood cancer. Our focus is to support the research of bright scientists across the country whose ideas can make the greatest impact for children fighting cancer. We focus our research funding efforts in three main areas: Hard-to-Treat Diseases, Health Disparities and Survivorship. It is crucial that we fund safer, more effective treatments and cures for kids with cancer. Thanks to donors and partners around the country, we have contributed over $200 million to research, education and awareness and quality-of-life programs for childhood cancer families.

About the Position

The Director of Finance is responsible for overseeing and leading the financial management of CCRF. This role will be responsible for developing CCRF’s financial management strategy and contributing to the execution of the strategic plan. Additionally, this role will oversee the day-to-day accounting activities providing leadership to the accounting and finance team.

This position is hybrid, and requires the Director to work at our headquarters in Minneapolis, MN at least two days out of the week.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee CCRF’s finances, including managing the general ledger, quarterly financial reporting, annual budget process, payables and receivables
  • Prepare financial reporting for internal and external stakeholders
  • Manage and oversee cash management, financial analysis, strategic planning, forecasting/projections, budget preparation, and other projects
  • Develop financial planning models and forecasts
  • Lead project manager for annual audit process and 990 preparations including acting as key liaison with audit and tax firm
  • Oversee financial administration of grants and ensure fiduciary compliance with donor, contract, and grant restrictions
  • Oversee financial policies and procedures; recommends changes as needed for compliance, efficiency and internal controls
  • Monitor and improve internal controls
  • Maintain relationships with banks, investment institutions, auditors, and any other external providers of financial services
  • Prepare, present, and communicate financial results at the Finance, Audit and Investment Committee meetings of the Board of Directors
  • Monitor accounting systems and controls to ensure they are functioning properly and implement enhancement where necessary
  • Supervise and mentor the Sr. Accountant Manager fostering a collaborative work environment
  • Along with Sr. Accountant Manager, manage advanced financial analysis and cashflow management.

Must Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 8-10 years’ experience in Finance/Accounting
  • Minimum 5 years of nonprofit accounting and financial reporting
  • Advanced technical skills: Sage Intacct preferred, Microsoft Suite (Excel, Word, etc.)
  • Experience in effective use of AI for financial analysis and other use cases for streamlining and improving efficiencies in daily activities
  • Experience in a grant making organization
  • Demonstrated knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting
  • Exceptional communication skills and ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with a high level of integrity, trust and confidentiality
  • Excellent judgement, creative problem-solving and multi-tasking skills
  • Ability to prioritize, focus and manage projects
  • High level of integrity and commitment to the organization’s mission

Pay

  • $156K-$180K DOE

The Details

  • This role is exempt (you are not eligible for overtime for any work over 40 hours in a work-week)
  • This position is full-time
  • This position is hybrid and does require coming into the office twice a week
