Development Research & Prospect Strategy Associate

Children’s Cancer Research Fund (CCRF) is a national nonprofit dedicated to ending childhood cancer. We fund transformational research with the greatest potential to bring better, safer treatments and cures to children with cancer. Our approach is unique – we fund research across the country, not just at one hospital or institution, and our funding priorities address health disparities, aggressive and relapsed cancers, and long-term health after cancer. We also help kids and families find community and amplify their stories as they navigate the difficult experience of cancer treatment and survivorship.

CCRF has grown its base of supporters significantly in recent years through the expansion of national childhood cancer research funding. As such, CCRF is poised to capitalize on this growth and create opportunities in its Major Gift and Corporate Partnership segments to inspire donors and ultimately fund transformational research to bring better treatments and cures to children with cancer. The organization invites applications for a Development Research and Prospect Strategy Associate, to ensure the Major Gift and Corporate Partnership teams are focused on the right donors and prospects and the most effective tactics to deepen their engagement with the organization.

The primary goal of this position is to support the optimization of CCRF’s pool of current and prospective major donors and corporate partners. The Development Research and Prospect Strategy Associate will use creative techniques and methodologies to ensure the organization’s fundraising initiatives have sufficient, strategic, accessible, and well-organized major donor and corporate partner giving pools, which are critical to overall fundraising success. This role is expected to be a strong user and steward of department databases and tracking systems to capture and share accurate information and actionable insights, to participate in shaping and delivering team training efforts and to assist in writing and delivering high quality queries and reports that inform and advance CCRF’s relationships with current and future donors.

Success will be measured on metrics to be established annually with the Director of Development, Individual Giving and the Director of Development, Partnerships, specifically targeting the following performance measures: number of prospects identified, prospect-to-donor conversion rate, and successful management of monthly and yearly team metrics reporting.

*This is a full-time, non-exempt position. While this role is posted as remote, preference will be given to candidates located in the Twin Cities. If a Twin Cities–based candidate is hired, they will be required to work out of our Minneapolis office two days per week.*

Responsibilities:

  • Conducts research proactively and as-requested according to the ethical standards of the Association of Professional Researchers for Advancement (APRA) to independently and proactively identify new donor prospects.
  • Uses creative research techniques, provides high-level research and strategy recommendations on individuals, friends, corporations using a wide variety of biographical, organizational and financial sources, including online databases, library and government sources, and other external repositories of public information to identify prospects.
  • Utilizes and employs donor prospect screening services.
  • Evaluates research results to develop and implement further research strategies utilizing ethical intelligence-gathering techniques. Analyzes and synthesizes accumulated information to assess financial capacity, philanthropic tendencies, giving propensity, and links to childhood cancer.
  • Identifies donor gift capacity through the analysis and clarification of complex information.
  • In partnership with stewardship team, manages mailing lists and record updates for the major gift and corporate partnerships teams.
  • Prepares confidential profiles on prospective donors, including individuals and corporations for use by the CEO, Chief Development Officer, Director of Development, Partnerships, and Director of Development, Individual Giving, and other development team members. Materials can include reports, capacity evaluations, background documents, event bios, etc. for use by development staff and CEO.
  • Ensures the accuracy of prospect information. Updates and maintains donor and prospective donor profiles and database records, including biographical, financial, and philanthropic information. Oversees prospect development tracking system.
  • Serves as a strong user of the organization’s CRM, as well as other analysis and research tools. Manages the optimization of the tool's prospect data and moves management abilities. Participates in and contributes to the formulation of policies related to the processes and procedures of prospect management and is the development team’s liaison with the operations team to ensure CRM fields and reports are meeting the development team’s needs.
  • Monitors metrics tracking and reporting. Monitor that development team members are entering accurate and timely call notes and activities into the CRM for monthly metrics tracking reports. Runs monthly reports and apprises the Director of Development, Partnerships and the Director of Development, Individual Giving of year-to-date progress towards department goals. Makes recommendations for process improvements within the CRM for additional data or insight reporting.
  • Safeguards the confidentiality of donor information and maintains appropriate recording and use of information in CCRF’s constituent database and supporting systems.
  • Manages special projects including a small portfolio of private foundation grant applications and other duties as assigned by the Director of Development, Individual Giving.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and 2+ years of experience in prospect research or prospect management, or any equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Commitment to equitable and ethical research practices

  • Can convey complex information clearly and accurately
  • Proficient in MS Office suite with emphasis on Outlook, Word, and Excel

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of prospect research or prospect management work
  • Experience using Salesforce CRM
  • Experience using Donor Search software
  • Experience using Alumni Finder/AccuData software

Pay:

  • $67,300K - $78,000
  • This role is non-exempt (you will be paid overtime for any work over 40 hours in a week)

Travel:

  • If this position is hired outside of the Twin Cities area you may be required to travel to Minneapolis 2-4 times a year.
