Every September, Childhood Cancer Awareness Month reminds us of the progress we’ve made for kids with cancer.
That progress is measured in more ways than charts and spreadsheets. It’s reflected in the moments research makes possible: muddy pants, craft tables, ball games, swim meets and everyday experiences that return kids to childhood after cancer.
For 45 years, Children's Cancer Research Fund has invested in research that gives kids with cancer more opportunities to simply be kids. The past decade has been one of extraordinary momentum – accelerating discoveries, expanding partnerships and creating more moments that matter.
Here's what that decade of impact looks like:
Expanding the Reach of Discovery
Over the past decade, CCRF has awarded more than 165 research grants over the past decade to scientists in Minnesota and nationwide — helping fuel innovative ideas, emerging discoveries and lifesaving progress for kids with cancer.
Powering the Progress
Thanks to donor support, CCRF has provided more than $64 million in research funding to help researchers better understand childhood cancers, develop safer treatments and help more children live longer, healthier lives.
Taking on the Toughest Challenges
Brain tumors remain the deadliest of all childhood cancers. Over the last 10 years, CCRF has invested $9.5 million in brain tumor research focused on finding better treatments and improving survival for kids facing these devastating diagnoses.
CCRF has also supported 42 clinical trials testing new therapies for hard-to-treat cancers and approaches designed to improve the health and well-being of childhood cancer survivors.
Building a Community that Shows Up for Kids
None of this happens alone. Over the last 10 years, donors, fundraisers, volunteers, corporate partners, researchers and families have come together to create real momentum for kids with cancer.
